Chapter 4 – Dance with the Devil

Cammy carelessly elbowed her way through the swarms of swaying bodies that moved to the pulsing beat of the packed dance floor. She had just narrowly defeated her last challenger, Zangief and was still feeling the after effects of being thrashed about like a rag doll. She held a sealed envelope tight to her heart, as it contained info that would tell her where her next match be held. She strained her eyes through the throngs of dancing drunkards for her Delta Red team members. Lita would take care of her wounds, George would get as much data as he could on the next prospective opponent, as Matthew would discuss defence strategy with her. Her Delta Red team was her secret weapon in succeeding thus far in the tournament.

The World Warrior tournament turned out to be quite the whirlwind tour of the planet. As the only member of Delta Red that qualified for the tournament, her victories had taken them all over the world. They travelled to handful places around the world, from USA to Japan and some of the countries in-between. However, they had yet to come across M. Bison at any of her matches, which was ultimately their goal. She didn't know why but she felt that she was getting closer and closer to him.

Zangief was the most oppressive adversary that she had come across in the tournament as of yet. He could easily snap a person's neck in half if he managed to manoeuvre them between his thighs, as George warned as he showed her a clip of his last fight on his laptop. The only reason Cammy came out triumphant was that she had speed and agility on her side. It didn't hurt that she was much smarter than him too. All that brawn, with no brains to help him out of a paper bag, Cammy smirked to herself, as she awkwardly ambled through the undulating figures around her. The strobe lights began to flicker along with the high tempo music in the background, giving the dancing bodies around her a fascinating slow motion effect. She could see scantily clad women throwing their heads back and forth along with techno music as some men with gyrating hips attempted to pull them into their arms. Peculiarly, the hairs on the back of her neck began to stand on end. She could definitely feel a pair of eyes watching her every clumsy step and the slow motion effect of fluttering red material caught the corner of her curious eye.

Steadying her feet, she turned her head back and was met with the intense crimson stare of M. Bison. Even though he stood several feet away from her, his immense figure menacingly hulked over her. With a loud gulp, her heart dropped to the floor as she drank in the vision of his massive stature. His physique and stare was so intimidating that not even one inebriated dancer dared to step into the 3 foot perimeter that surrounded him. As the seconds ticked by, Bison's arm stretched towards her and he prowled closer and closer along with the throbbing beat of the house music in the background. Something in the back of her brain screamed at her to hobble away as fast as she could, but her feet remained glued to the floor. She felt like a little mouse mesmerized with a cobra's seductive ruby gaze. It wasn't too long before he stood right in front of her.

With his extended arm, instead of smacking across her face like she expected, he lightly traced his fingertip along the rigged line of the scar on the crest of her cheek. She gasped at the startling shock that went through her body from the sensation of his finger gently caressing her face. What was going on? Had she been chosen for recruitment as opposed to annihilation? She stared blankly up at him, furiously forcing her sluggish mind to come up with her next move. Should she attack now that he was in such close range or should she attempt put some distance between them? Before she could decide what to do next, one of Bison's hands grabbed onto her bare ass cheek and pulled her in closer, crushing her against his hard body. The way that he intimately held onto her backside, suggested that he was very accustomed to handling her body which alarmed her. He then took a hold of her chin and inclined his face toward curve of neck. He inhaled in heavily, sending a series of shivers down her spine.

"Have you returned?" Bison growled, his husky voice could be heard clearly above the throbbing music in the background since his lips were barely inches away from her ear. The familiarity in his tone caused warm tendrils of heat to swirl in her belly but then the directness of the question rattled her. Had she returned? Returned to what…or to whom?

Before she only had a mere inkling that her past could be intertwined with Bison, but now she was 100% certain that he knew her. Cammy only took a quick second to think about how to respond to his query. She nodded emphatically in the affirmative, hoping to fool him into thinking that she knew him as well as he appeared to know her. This little white lie could potentially unlock more information about her past.

Bison released his grasp on her chin and her butt, as he took a step back. Crossing his arms across his formidable chest, he narrowed his stare on her expressive blue eyes. He watched her pant from her exertion as she tried to convince him with her pleading gaze that she was on his side. He tilted his head to side, as the corners of his mouth twitched with amusement and then disappointment.

"Liar," He finally mouthed, after assessing her poor performance. Suddenly, she felt some hands grab her from behind and intuitively she drew an elbow up to wedge herself away from them. Frantically looking behind, her tense muscles relaxed when she saw it was only Lita and Matthew attempting to help her out with her interaction with Bison by plucking her out of his deadly grip. She then quickly whipped her head back and discovered Bison had managed to disappear from sight.

Although she finally felt safe, she couldn't help but feel dejected with his prompt departure. The way his gaze bore down on her. The way that his tender touch had felt on her heated skin. The way that her body reacted from hearing his voice…it had to mean something. Expelling her held breath, she allowed herself to collapse into Matthew's grasp, trembling from her intimate experience with the crime boss.

"Take me away from here," Cammy beseeched. Matthew complied by scooping her up into his arms. Lita quickly took Cammy's vitals and after finding nothing that needed her immediate attention, she motioned to Matthew that it was okay to leave and they swiftly left the nightclub behind.

"Cammy, was that Bison we saw you with?" Lita asked with her warm brown eyes filled with concern as she buckled Cammy into the backseat of Delta Red's rented SUV. "I mean, I didn't get a really good look at the guy because it was so crowded and then he practically disappeared into thin air when we finally got close."

"That definitely had to be him. Otherwise he has a very identical twin brother on the loose." Matthew said with certainty since he was several inches taller than most people, which gave him the advantage of having a better viewpoint.

"I thought so. What did he want from you?" Lita inquired as she buckled herself in next to Cammy's limp body.

"I couldn't exactly hear him over that ear-splitting music," Cammy croaked out. She kept her eyes closed so her comrades couldn't see that she was lying through her teeth.

"Yeah, that music was pretty deafening. Still, I wonder what he wanted…" Lita pondered aloud. "Anyways, I'm just glad that he didn't harm you any further than you already are."

"That makes two of us," Cammy said with a dry smile playing on her lips.

"Matthew, let's move it. Even though Cammy isn't on her deathbed, she still requires some medical attention." Lita demanded, tapping the back of his seat.

"George hasn't returned yet, he still has to take down all his video cameras from their hidden locations." Matthew replied. "That footage is important to our mission."

"Well, our mission is kaput if Cammy can't compete any further in it!" Lita retorted with exasperation. "If he's gonna take that long he can take a cab back!"

"You two lovebirds can stop arguing now. I'm here now." George joshed as he hopped into the passenger seat next to Matthew.

"Did you recover all of our cameras?" Matthew asked.

"Do you honestly think I could leave any of them behind? They're like my babies." George responded with a grin, affectionately caressing his back pack.

"Which is why you don't have a girlfriend," Lita muttered loudly under her breath.

"Lita, you know I keep that position open for you, for whenever you finally want it," George teased, waggling his eyebrows mischievously at her.

"Keep dreaming about that buddy," she retorted, but there was no malice present in her voice.

Cammy had already tuned out on the banter between Lita and the guys, since she was too focused on remembering every detail of her chance meeting with Bison to pay anyone else any mind. This confrontation could have scared her away from pursuing her past. However, she knew for certain that there was someone out there who definitely had answers for her. Now, she was more determined than ever.

"Gims, we're heading to Brazil, I can't believe it." Colonel Wolfman exclaimed as he read over the invitation for Cammy's next match. He was aware that one of Shadow Law's largest headquarters was theorized to be based there. "We're getting so close to Bison, I can almost taste it."

"Well, we actually had an encounter with Bison tonight." George offhandedly chimed in as he reviewed the videotape from the match with Zangief on his laptop.

"Bison actually made an appearance for one of Ms. White's matches?" Keith replied with surprise, causing the vellum in his hand to fall to the floor.

"He did more than that. He approached her afterwards." George uttered, freezing the footage to the scene of Bison whispering into Cammy's ear. The footage was taken from an angle slightly behind Bison.

"Did you get any audio on their communication?" Keith requested, examining the frozen image over George's shoulder.

"No, the music was too loud hear anything of value. But our camera 3 caught something interesting." George said as he pushed his wireless mouse in swift circular motions, pulling up footage from the rear viewpoint of Cammy.

"What is the point of interest about this footage?" Keith asked, his eyes narrowing in on Bison's hand cupping Ms. White's backside disapprovingly.

"There's something in this footage that's almost as good as having audio," George stated proudly. He clicked loudly on his mouse and the image zoomed in on Bison's face. "Let's take out the volume to get rid of all the distractions of the music and play this in slow motion, shall we?"

With a short click, the video played and Keith understood what George implying.

"You don't have to be expert at reading lips to know what it is he's saying to her, it's only three little words." George stated conclusively. "He's asking, 'have you returned?' "

The video then showed Cammy's head nodding vigorously before it blurred out.

"Where's the rest of footage?" Keith inquired calmly.

"The film ran out at that point, but shortly after that Lita and Matthew intervened and got Cammy away from Bison's clutches." George replied. "She's been unresponsive afterwards. But then again, her match with Zangief was a doozy."

"I see," Keith responded stiffly. His mind was going through several scenarios of how to interpret the footage that they had just watched.

Scenario #1: Was Cammy nodding her head to save her life from a man that she knew that would kill her on the spot if she proved to be difficult to his nefarious whims?

Scenario #2: Was Cammy actually a double agent who was spying on Delta Red on behalf of Shadow Law and Bison was checking in with her?

Scenario #3: Was Cammy actually a triple agent who was spying on Shadow Law by feigning that she was a double agent with Delta Red, but was actually spying on behalf of the British intelligence. After all, how many soldiers have their own personal files categorized as classified unto themselves?

Scenario #4: Was Cammy a free agent and the motivations behind her actions would remain a mystery, no matter where her allegiance lay?

Each and every scenario Keith devised in his head was plausible, but the footage alone was not enough to convince him of what Cammy's true intentions were. He needed more evidence before he could gauge her innocence.

"Show me all your footage after that point in their interaction on all our other cameras," Keith demanded.

"Sorry, Colonel but all the cameras are timed to start recording at the same time. They all hold same amount of footage. " George answered defensively. "We have to show her this footage and force her to explain herself!"

"Gims, we need more information on this interaction before we act so hastily. Understandably, this footage appears to be damaging but we cannot jump to any conclusions until we have more proof." Keith explained. "And we cannot accuse Cammy with anything until we are 100% that she is working for Shadow Law."

"She doesn't have the history with Delta Red like the rest of team does, so I really don't know how much I can trust her." George contended. "What if she is working for them? What if she's leading us into a trap and plans to kills us all when we reach Brazil where she has more reinforcements? That is where Shadow Law is supposedly based."

"That is very possible, however if she is innocent then we look like unreasonable fools and lose whatever trust she could have in us. As well, we could potentially lose an excellent soldier by pushing her into Shadow Law's arms." Keith reasoned back. "And we know for certain that Shadow Law wants her. I'm sure that Bison doesn't make it a habit to appear at just anyone's matches."

"Well Colonel, it is your call." George said with slight resignation. "I tend to be as paranoid as they come, which is why a level-headed gentlemen like yourself tend to become leaders of a motley crew like ours."

"Due to lack of evidence, we proceed as usual with only minor amendments to the mission." Keith finally stated. "We advise Luwanda and McCoy to precede with extra caution for the remainder of the mission and we must also amp up our surveillance of Ms. White."
